About the event
Join the Musconetcong Watershed Association (MWA) and New Jersey Highlands Coalition (NJHC) on a casual hike at Jenny Jump State Forest in Hope on Saturday, September 16.
Jenny Jump State Forest sits in the Pequest River Watershed. Along with the Musconetcong, Flatbrook and Paulinskill, it is one of the waterways in New Jersey's Great Waters region. New Jersey's Great Waters and their watersheds provide high quality drinking water, scenic views, and support naturally reproducing brook trout populations.
This moderately difficult 5.5 mile out-and-back along the yellow and blue trails features sweeping panoramic views of the Highlands and Kittatinny Mountains, including a distant view of the Delaware Water Gap and a casual walk along the banks of Ghost Pond. Hike leaders Ryan Jiorle (MWA), Dylan Medici (NJHC) and volunteer hike leader Zac Cole (New York-New Jersey Trail Conference) will provide insightful details on the ecology and history of the region.
The trail is generally well-maintained but features some steeper sections. Due to severe storms over the summer, the trail may have some obstacles such as deep mud, washed-out sections or blowdowns. As always, keep an eye on the weather forecast and be prepared for both hot summer and cooler autumn weather by bringing plenty of water, snacks and appropriate clothing and footwear. For more information on the essentials visit https://www.nynjtc.org/content/10-hiking-essentials.
