MWA Celebrates Another Milestone Anniversary

This year, the National Wild & Scenic Rivers Act turns 50, and we've got a lot to celebrate. We've just received great news about a new segment of the Musconetcong River on its way to Wild & Scenic designation.

This Tuesday, the Pohatcong Township Council passed a resolution in support of a new section of the Musconetcong being a Wild & Scenic river. Holland Township has already passed a similar resolution, so the 4.3 miles of river from the Hughesville Mill (Cyphers Road) to the Delaware River is now on its way to being added as part of the Wild & Scenic River System. MWA will let you know when the National Park Service finalizes the paperwork.

Also, we've received a matching grant from a special Wild & Scenic initiative formed by the National Park Foundation to create Musconetcong Island Park on an island in Bethlehem Township where an abandoned mill building exists now. This special initiative was launched in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Wild & Scenic Rivers Act. MWA officially launched our project this week, and have a construction timeline that starts late fall. This will be a boon for recreational access in a popular fishing, swimming and boating spot.

Lastly, through the Musconetcong River Management Council, we are working with our county and municipal partners, Trout Unlimited, to put up more "Wild & Scenic River" signs at bridge crossings. The signs will reach tens of thousands of people each day as they cross the Musconetcong - greatly increasing the visibility of our river.
