Press Release: Wild & Scenic River Signs to be placed along the Musconetcong River

Asbury, NJ In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the National Wild & Scenic Rivers Act, the Musconetcong River Management Council (MRMC) will display new Wild & Scenic River signs at bridge crossings along the Musconetcong River.
The first sign (pictured) was installed at the bridge crossing on Asbury-West Portal Road in Bethlehem Township, NJ near the Musconetcong Watershed Association's River Resource Center and Asbury Mill.
"Bethlehem Township is proud to partner with the Musconetcong River Management Council (MRMC) and Trout Unlimited to recognize the value of the Musconetcong River to our community," said Paul Muir, Mayor, Bethlehem Township.
"With the new signs, the Musconetcong Watershed Association along with the MRMC hopes to increase awareness of the Musconetcong River's National Wild & Scenic status for water quality and recreational opportunities," said Alan Hunt, Executive Director, Musconetcong Watershed Association (MWA).
Just over 30 signs will be installed on all river crossings in designated Wild & Scenic segments, in partnership with the municipalities and counties.
"Trout Unlimited is a partner in the Musconetcong Wild & Scenic River, and has restored more than 100 acres and 5 miles of river habitat," said Cole Baldino, New Jersey Delaware River Coordinator, Trout Unlimited. "The Musconetcong is a great river for recreation and has tremendous potential for reestablishing a native brook trout population."
"The National Park Service thinks it's important for watershed folks to know that the Musky is special and belongs to a select group of rivers in the National Wild & Scenic Rivers System," said Paul Kenney, River Manager, National Park Service Partnership Wild & Scenic Rivers.
The Musconetcong River Management Council (MRMC) formed following the Musconetcong's 2006 Partnership Wild & Scenic River designation from Congress, and is made up of river-front municipalities, Hunterdon Morris, Sussex, and Warren Counties, the Musconetcong Watershed Association, Trout Unlimited, and North Jersey RC&D, a farm conservation organization.
The Partnership Wild & Scenic Rivers program supports nationally significant rivers in areas primarily with private land ownership, and engages the community in cooperatively managing these rivers.
